In our modern world we often lead lives that are time pressured and which involve endless ‘to do’ lists. It is rare that we stop and review the strain this puts on our physical, mental, psychological and spiritual well- being. It is sadly often the case that the stress we put on our systems on a daily basis gives rise to low immunity to illness and health conditions.
Within mainstream medicine, the focus is often on the curative rather than the preventative aspect of health care. This can lead to a passive approach to looking after ourselves and a lack knowledge about the impact of environment, lifestyle and diet on our health. With increasing pressure in our NHS systems, it might be prudent therefore to be taking a more pro-active stance in taking care of our own health and well -being.
Traditionally, this might have meant getting the balance right in terms of ‘diet and exercise’, but research is now showing that our overall health and well -being is influenced by many factors, including social activity, sense of community and purpose, creative pursuits, non -toxic environments etc in addition to a healthy diet and appropriate exercise.
As a trainee Health Creation Mentor, with the Health Creation Programme, I am able to support clients in reviewing the different factors that might be impacting on their general health, help them to prioritise areas needing attention and encourage them in achieving goals that will make a real difference to their overall well - being.
Clients are offered 6 sessions over 6 months to begin to adjust their life styles in line with their own chosen well - being goals.
